HEMMINGSEN Lars, University of Copenhagen, Danemark
PAC spectroscopy applied to metal binding peptides
Biography:
Lars Hemmingsen is associate professor at the Department of Chemistry, University of Copenhagen. He received his master’s degree in physics from the University of Copenhagen, and a PhD in biophysics and bioinorganic chemistry in 1995, the Royal Veterinary and Agricultural University, Denmark. After postdoctoral stays on theoretical chemistry with Ulf Ryde, University of Lund, and Martin J. Field, IBS, Grenoble, he established his own group in Copenhagen. Lars Hemmingsen’s group applies perturbed angular correlation of γ-rays (PAC) spectroscopy and theoretical chemistry to elucidate protein metal site structure and dynamics, develops new techniques in (bio)inorganic chemistry (β-NMR), and explores the role of metal ions in protein aggregation.
